file0002002724882Patty Cake’s Pantry is the brain-child of a mad kitchen scientist. also known as Patti Cake,  who loves to experiment and play with her food, at least while she’s  in the kitchen.  At the table, she tends to have better manners.  She is, after all, a mother and must be a good role model to her children.   In addition to being a good role model for her three children, Patti Cake is determined to feed her family tasty, frugal, and nutritious meals while holding down a full-time job.   Many of our recipes contain the cost of the ingredients as well as cost per serving.  Our hope is to eventually have this information on all of our recipes.

The mission of Patty Cake’s Pantry is to demystify the process of meal preparation so that even novice cooks, with no experience, can learn to prepare simple, delicious, and frugal meals for themselves and their families.   In order to achieve that goal,  this site is also committed to sharing information on the principle of building a pantry that is well stocked with simple staple items, purchased at the best price, which can be utilized as the building blocks of simple, healthy, and nutritious meals.  In this way, when you’re shopping, the majority of your purchases will be to re-stock your pantry which means you can watch for sales on those items to replenish your supplies at the best price.  This doesn’t mean that your diet will be boring and consist only of canned and dry goods.  There will always be some fresh ingredients to add variety to your meals, and it’s amazing how many different recipes you can make from the same pantry staples.  Keep checking back, and you’ll see what we mean.

  1. Hi there. This s so weird. I’m from Eugene 1981 & prior and fell in love with the Zorba sandwich. I was just sitting here reminiscing about it and typed in the search box Zorba sandwich and saw your recipe. Amazing! Couldn’t remember what all was in it but it was super yummy.I’m going to make them this weekend with your recipe. Have a great evening and thanks again. Patti

    1. I’m so glad that you found the recipe and my site. I honestly thought that I was the only person on the planet who remembered them. After you make it, will you come back and let me know if it’s like the one you remembered? I never got to taste the original, only my mom’s version.

  2. I have been looking for the barbecued shrimp receipe from Castagnola’s Lobster House Restaurant in Santa Barbara and saw your shrimp Louie receipe! Do you know the bbq shrimp sauce?

    1. Unfortunately, when I used to eat there, I only ate two things on their menu–the Louie Salads or the fried fish platters, but I will ask around and see if anyone knows the recipe for the bbq shrimp salad.

      1. Teresa, I haven’t had any luck finding your recipe, but someone suggested that you try calling the San Francisco Castagnola’s and ask them if they have the recipe. It’s not on their menu, but it’s worth a try.
