Patty Cake's Pantry Top Posts of 2019

Top Posts of 2019

I always enjoy studying the statistics on my website to discover which posts that all of you, my loyal readers, prefer. This year’s list of top posts contains most of the same recipes that were on last year’s list. Before we see what recipes were the most popular during 2019, I would like to point out that one of the top 10 posts wasn’t a recipe at all. It was a post about popsicle sticks, and the importance of making certain that the sticks you choose to use for your homemade popsicles are food grade because craft sticks, that may look like […]

So you want to start a blog

So, You Want to Start a Blog…

Today’s post came from a comment by Ashley from Germany.  The comment probably ended up in my spam folder because her email address was from Germany.  Akismet is usually correct, but it wasn’t that long ago that I found a comment from La Bella Vita Cucina in my spam folder, and that website is definitely legitimate.   I thought Ashley’s question was a good one, so I decided to answer it in the form of a blog post. “I’m hoping to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you propose starting with a free […]

Patty Cake celebrates 200 posts

The 200th Post Party

With the publication of the recipe for Ice Cream Sundae Cupcakes on June 11, 2016, Patty Cake’s Pantry marked its 200th post.  Because I pretty much abandoned blogging for several months last year due to work commitments outside of cyberspace, the arrival of this milestone was nearly two months late, but it finally arrived.  I’m only pointing this out to encourage others to keep working toward their goals and not give up.    Cyberspace is filled with abandoned and neglected blogs. In honor of the occasion, we decided to have a small dinner party, but what does one serve at […]

Blog vs Vlog–Winners

February has come and gone, and it’s time to announce the winner(s) of our blog vs. vlog competition.   This competition has been fun for both of us, and has helped to keep us motivated to stick to a regular posting schedule.   If you want to know what happened in during the month of February, keep reading. Random Life Of A began this competition with a total of 139 views and only 8 videos.  During the month of February, he had planned to post only once per week, but he posted an additional 6 videos over the course of the month.  […]

Bloggin g is better than Vlogging

Why is Blogging Better than Vlogging?

As you know, February first marked the beginning of a competition between Patty Cake’s Pantry and the YouTube Channel Random Life of A.   To spur the friendly competition along, I decided to share my list of 10 reasons why blogging is better than vlogging.  I don’t have to be camera ready to blog.  In fact, I can show up to my computer and blog in my pajamas and with my hair uncombed.  No one will see me.  A blog is easier to set up than a vlog.  Access to a computer and the internet is all you really need to […] vs RandomLifeofA YouTube Channel

Vlog vs Blog–A New Year’s Competition

It all started with a friendly conversation at Starbucks.   A very special person, Aaron, who can be found at the YouTube Channel RandomLifeOfA, and I were discussing our goals for our respective online projects.   He started a YouTube Channel last year while I started my blog two years ago.  Both of us need to do better at consistently publishing on a schedule and working to promote our posts and videos.   We decided that perhaps a contest might encourage us to push ourselves to work toward our goals. While the title of today’s post might imply that a cut throat […]

Goals for 2016

It’s that time of year when we proclaim our New Year’s Resolutions.  Here at Patty Cake’s Pantry,  we are still just calling them our goals.  Here are our goals for 2016. Patty Cake’s Pantry is now two years old, and we are averaging about 10 – 20 visitors per day.  there are days when se have 30 -50 visitors, but that’s not the norm.  I was surprised when I added analytics to my site because I really thought we probably only had a readership of about 10 people.   In the coming year, I intend to try and continue to […]

What I Learned My Second Year As A Blogger

As 2015 comes to an end, I find myself sick with the stomach flu.  This was not how I wanted to finish off the year, but as the saying goes “it is what it is.”  As I look back on my year, I have learned several things.  SCHEDULE YOUR BLOGGING TIME AS THOUGH IT IS A JOB:  In order to consistently blog, I need to have a schedule, and I need to stick to it.  If my plan is to monetize this blog, I need to consistently provide content that will make me show up on search engine radar, and […]

2015 Year In Review

I decided that as 2015 comes to an end, I should review my goals from last year and see where I stand. Goals from last year were as follows: 1.  Increase the number of posts to twice a week.   This will mean that there will be a total of 104 posts for this year. STATUS:  FAILED–While I did publish more posts than last year, I did not consistently post twice a week. 2.  Improve the quality of photos on my site.  This means that I will have to learn more about photography and get a DSLR camera. STATUS:  GOAL […]

Solving A Perplexing Photo Problem

This post is about a perplexing problem that I have noticed.  It all started about a year ago when I was assisting my friend with a post on her site.  We made a batch of fudge, trying out a new recipe for the first time.  We were so excited about how well the recipe turned out that we devoured the fudge before taking any photos.  This was a major oversight.  We used a photo of someone else’s fudge until the following weekend when we whipped up another batch of fudge and took some pictures.  My friend was still struggling to […]
