Grown Up Grilled Cheese

An assortment of different cheeses grilled into a sandwich with a compound Parmesan -garlic butter transforms the grilled cheese sandwich into a gourmet treat fit for adults. The total cost of this recipe is $3.76 or about $0.94 per sandwich.
  • ¼ cup butter ($0.32)
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic ($0.08)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley ($0.08)
  • 2 teaspoons grated Parmesan cheese ($0.06)
  • 8 slices sour dough bread ($1.00)
  • 4 slices pepper jack cheese ($0.62)
  • 4 slices Havarti cheese ($0.80)
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese ($0.80)
  1. Allow butter to soften at room temperature for about and hour before beginning to make the sandwich.
  2. Add granulated garlic, dried parsley, and Parmesan cheese to the butter and mix until thoroughly incorporated.
  3. Break slices of cheese in half and set aside
  4. Spread the Parmesan garlic butter onto four of the slices of cheese. Place them butter side down in a heated skillet over medium heat. .
  5. Arrange two half slices of each type cheese on top of this piece of bread.
  6. Spread butter on one side of the remaining slices of bread and place them on top of the cheese topped bread with the butter side facing up.
  7. Flip sandwiches over and allow to lightly brown on both sides.
  8. This takes about 3 to 5 minutes per side.
