The beginning of pear season coincides with the end of blueberry season and combining both fruits in this dessert adds a depth of flavor that's impossible to achieve with only one. This recipe is very easy to prepare. Served warm from the oven and topped with a scoop of ice cream, it's sure to impress your guests.
  • 4 medium pears, sliced (about 4 cups)
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup all purpose or whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup oats (quick cooking or old fashioned oats both work well in this recipe)
  • ⅓ cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  2. Grease and 8x8 baking pan (use a square pan, not a round one)

  4. Sprinkle blueberries evenly over the pear slices.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together the brown sugar, flour, oats, butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  6. Blend well.
  7. Sprinkle the butter flour, oat, and spice mixture over the fruit.
  8. Bake for 30 minutes at 350° until the topping is golden and the fruit tender.
  9. Serve warm with ice cream.
