This makes a delicious marinade for meat, and a couple of tablespoons stirred into a pound of ground beef or turkey makes delicious teriyaki flavored burgers. If you stir in the optional corn starch and bring to a boil on the stove, you create a thickened teriyaki style barbecue sauce.
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 4½ teaspoons of red wine vinegar or rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic or garlic powder (or 1 clove garlic finely minced)
  • 2 teaspoons corn starch (optional)
  1. Mix soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, sesame oil, and garlic together.
  2. Stir until well combined. At this point, the sauce can be used as a marinade or used to season ground meat for burgers.
  3. If you want a thicker teriyaki sauce to brush onto meats or use as a topping, stir the cornstarch into the sauce and bring it to a boil.
  4. Boil for one to two minutes until sauce begins to thicken.
  5. Brush the thickened sauce onto meat or vegetables or pour over rice.
