A remake of a sandwich my mother and father ate at a diner in a neighboring town. You can add some shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes to the sandwich if you like. If pita bread is expensive in your area, use flour tortillas and roll up burrito style. Total Cost of Recipe = $9.82 or $1.64 per serving.

  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped ($0.06)
  • 1 large onion, chopped ($0.25)
  • 1 pound lean ground beef ($4.87)

  • 1 (2.5 ounce) can sliced or chopped olives, drained ($0.68)

  • ½ cup mayonnaise ($0.50)
  • 6 pita (pocket) breads ($2.49)
