It's so ridiculously simple to make flavored popcorn that you will wonder why you never did this before. This savory version is great as a game time snack, and is delicious as a side to your lunchtime sandwich.
  • 4 tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive oil
  • ½ cup unpopped popcorn kernels
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1½ teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon of sea salt (or to taste)
  • 2 Tablespoons Grated Parmesan Cheese (or more to taste)
  1. In a small bowl or cup, mix together the Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt. Set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large, deep pot with a lid over medium heat.
  3. When the oil is hot, drop in the popcorn kernels and gently shake the pan from side to side to ensure that the kernels are evenly distributed on the bottom of the pan. This also ensures that they are coated in oil.
  4. Place lid on pan.
  5. Keep pan over heat, gently shaking from side to side periodically.
  6. After a few minutes, you should hear the corn kernels begin to hit the inside of your pot lid as they pop.
  7. Continue to shake the pan gently as the corn pops, leaving the lid in place.
  8. The sound of the popping will become more muffled as the pan fills with popped corn.
  9. Immediately remove from heat when popping stops to prevent burning.
  10. Pour into serving bowl and sprinkle with the herb and cheese mixture, tossing well to ensure that popcorn is well coated.
  11. Serve immediately. We often have one big communal popcorn bowl, but this can be served in individual bowls, bags, or paper cones.
