This version of Chex Mix is bolder than the original thanks to the addition of Louisiana Hot Sauce. It's a simple recipe that can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container for up to two weeks. That makes it a make ahead snack for entertaining. Cook's Note: If you don't have a roasting pan, the mix can be arranged on two large sheet pans and baked. Watch carefully, as it may be done after one hour if you use this method. You want the cereal to be crisp, but not to burn.
  • 3 cups corn Chex cereal
  • 3 cups rice Chex cereal
  • 3 cups wheat Chex cereal
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can peanuts
  • 1 cup pretzel sticks
  • 1 cup cheese nips crackers
  • 1 stick butter or margarine
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • ½ teaspoon granulated onion
  • ½ teaspoon Louisiana hot sauce
  1. Measure cereal, pretzels, and cheese nips into a very large roasting pan.
  2. Add Peanuts to pan and mix ingredients together.
  3. Melt butter--this can be done either on the stove top or in the microwave.
  4. Once the butter is melted, stir in Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, granulated garlic, granulated onion, and Louisiana hot sauce.
  5. Stir until all ingredients are incorporated. Spices may settle to the bottom, so stir right before pouring.
  6. Carefully drizzle the butter mixture over top of the cereal, carefully stirring to ensure that all of the cereal mixture is coated with butter seasoning. Be careful so that you don't break up all of the cereal.
  7. Once this is completed , place the roasting pan into a 250 degree oven.
  8. Bake for 1½ hours, stirring mixture after every 15 minutes. This prevents burning and ensures that the seasonings are evenly distributed.
  9. Spread Chex Mix onto Sheet pans, aluminum foil, or parchment paper to cool.
  10. When completely cool, store in an airtight container.
