These 5 simple ingredients create a simple and delicious homemade barbecue sauce which can take the place of bottled sauce. Cook's Note: If you plan to add this sauce to a meatloaf or burgers before grilling, there's not need to cook the sauce first. The flavors with meld together during the cooking process. If you're planning on using it as a dipping sauce or brushing it onto meats as they grill, you will need to cook it first. Also, if you've never used liquid smoke, use it with caution. It can easily overwhelm the flavor of the sauce. Total Cost of Recipe = $1.35
  • 2 cups catsup ($0.79)
  • 1 cup brown sugar ($0.41)

  • ½ teaspoon granulated garlic or garlic powder ($0.04)
  • ¼ cup very finely chopped onion($0.06)
  1. Saute onion in a small amount of water in the bottom of a 1 quart sauce pan until translucent
  2. Add all of the other ingredients into a sauce pan.
  3. Heat to boiling.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes stirring frequently to prevent it from sticking.
  5. Store in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
