I first read the words “All beginnings are hard” on my first day of college and it has become a mantra of sorts for me whenever I start something new and find myself in unfamiliar situations and faced with new challenges. This applies to starting a new job, moving to a new town, or learning a new skill. In the beginning, whenever I try something new, things are hard as I am pushed outside of my comfort zone and into the unknown. Beginnings always present new challenges. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It is just something that comes with change. It takes time to learn new skills required in a new environment, and it takes time to become comfortable with your new circumstances.
What does this have to do with Patty Cake’s Pantry? The answer is simple. I had considered starting a blog for some time. I attended introductory blogging classes and even a paid workshop or two. Convinced that I was adequately prepared to start blogging, I purchased my domain name, and decided to build my own website in order to save money. Let me begin by saying that I am not the most computer literate person in the world. The path to a functional website was fraught with difficulty. At one point, the entire web-page disappeared. I have no idea what I clicked or didn’t click to cause that to happen. I spent many hours reading message boards until I finally managed to create the website you see before you.
Patty Cake’s Pantry is focused on the principle of building a pantry that is well stocked with simple staple items, purchased at the best price, which can be utilized as the building blocks of simple, healthy, and nutritious meals. If you have a pantry that’s loaded with staple ingredients, it’s easy to get dinner on the table. Don’t think that using a stocked pantry will mean you have to eat the same boring meals over and over again. It’s amazing how the same staple items can create a variety of different flavors from diverse cultures. In addition to helping our readers to learn to stock their pantries, our mission is to demystify the process of meal preparation so that even novice cooks, with no experience, can learn to prepare simple, delicious, and frugal meals for themselves and their families.
We hope that you will visit Patty Cake’s Pantry often. Post topics will include determining how much and what you should store, how to store foods, how to get the best deals on pantry items to help stretch those grocery dollars, and recipes to use the things that you stock. We will even share tips for transforming leftovers into something new.
The good news is that my skills in the kitchen are much better than my website building skills.
Thanks for visiting Patty Cake’s Pantry.
