I’m sure that someone will read this and wonder what a random act of generosity is. My intention was to hold a giveaway. I found something that I thought was very interesting, and it was on sale for a great price. Since the item was food related, I thought it would be the perfect thing to give away on my site. The problem was that as I began to study all of the rules that govern bloggers giving something away, my head began to spin. It was very complicated. Did you know that there are federal laws that govern giveaways on blogs? Even the information at dummies.com made my head hurt.
Basically, it seems that asking people to do anything beyond answer a simple question in the comment section of a post can be construed as an illegal lottery. Since I had already purchased the item and wanted to give it away, I made an executive decision. I chose not to have an official giveaway. Instead, I chose to randomly give the item to one of my subscribers by having Sue Chef select a name from a container that contained the names of all of my subscribers. There were only seven, so it wasn’t hard to write their names on little squares of paper.
We folded the papers in quarters and tossed them into a container then stirred up the names and shook the container a couple of times for good measure. Sue Chef reached inside and randomly selected a name. I don’t think I broke any laws because my subscribers didn’t know I was going to do this. I didn’t make them subscribe to enter the drawing. They had already subscribed, and I chose to randomly give something to ONE of them.
And the Winner is….
Angie from High Desert Blogging. She has another blog, too–Kitchen Southern Hospitality. You should check out her cake recipes. They are delicious, especially her German chocolate cake frosting.
Since I haven’t mentioned what was being given away, now might be a good time to tell Angie what she has won.
She is now the proud owner of The Perfect Bacon Bowl.I actually like this kitchen gadget. I love bacon. That’s why I added it to my potato cake and coleslaw recipes. What can possibly be better than an edible bowl made of bacon?
The box contains two bacon bowls which are dishwasher safe. Angie will be able to make bacon bowls for herself and her husband, Mr. Fun.
According to the package, it can also be used to make a bread bowl.
So, CONGRATULATIONS ANGIE on being the recipient of my blog’s first giveaway random act of generosity.
I hope you write a blog post and review the perfect bacon bowl, so I will know how well it works. This, of course, is completely optional. I think if I ask you to do this, I might be breaking one of those laws.
The next time I plan a giveaway, I will be much better prepared, and the appropriate plug in or widgets will be installed on my site.
Until then, thanks for Visiting Patty Cake’s Pantry.
