I love to make variations on simple recipes. I am in love with the candies that are made by melting either hugs or kisses on top of pretzels and smashing them down with either a candy or a nut. I have already publishes three variations on this recipe, but I had to do just one more. You can find the versions with candy corn, marshmallow gummy eyeballs, and rolos with pecans elsewhere on this site. One day, while I was at my local grocer, I saw that they had the cutest little candy pumpkins. I have a confession. I am […]
This is another one of my non-recipes. It’s just a cooking technique that effectively changes a very kid friendly dish, macaroni and cheese, into something a bit more ghoulish for Halloween. The entire process is very simple. All you need is a box of macaroni and cheese plus all of the ingredients needed to prepare it along with some green food coloring.
I have always thought that cauliflower florets looked like brain tissue with the undulating shape of the florets on the dense surface. As a result, I have attempted to transform them into something ghoulish and frightening for Halloween. This is a very simple process, but I have to confess that I made a mistake with the first batch that I cooked. This is another non recipe. It’s only the description of a cooking technique, but it’s very easy and makes a great addition to your Halloween menu.
I previously posted about the candies that are made from candy corn, hugs, and pretzels. These are very easy and tasty, too. They might even impress your friends. The next obvious choice would be to make them with some Reese’s Pieces on top and that would be good, but we wanted to switch things up a bit and try some more unusual toppings for our pretzel based candies. We started with Hershey Kisses. An observation that we made is that the kisses don’t seem to melt as smoothly as the hugs. In fact, some of the kisses seemed to almost […]
Deviled Eggs are so easy to make and so versatile. There are many different ways you can combine ingredients to make them taste different. Today’s post is going to use a deviled egg recipe that was previously posted here at Patty Cake’s Pantry as the base, but we are going to make a few changes to the finished product to produce something a little more creepy for Halloween. The first thing that you need to do is whip a batch of deviled eggs. The two easiest ways to make these into a Halloween treat involve the use of olives. The […]
The name of this post sounds like the headline from a tabloid. Candy Corn was seen hugging Pretzel. “Who knew that someone so sweet would melt for someone so tough and salty?” It sounds like a good start, right? I didn’t really know what to call this recipe, but as I was thinking about the ingredients, candy corn, hugs, and pretzels, I settled upon the headline above. The idea dates back to last Christmas when a friend from work made the cutest candies. They were made from pretzels, topped with peppermint kisses that had been melted and topped with plain […]
This post is my community service post for better nutrition before I start posting all of the candy and cookie recipes for the upcoming holidays. We should all strive to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet. This post is my contribution toward that goal. I know someone is reading the title of this post and thinking “Aren’t most Jack-o-Lanterns orange?” They are, but allow me to explain. I was over at Craving Some Creativity looking at these cute printables that turn store-bought pudding cups into Halloween Treats. They are a great way to make an ordinary lunchbox ingredient into something […]
Holidays don’t necessarily mean that you have to ignore your grocery budget. In fact, holiday treats can often be pulled together from things that you already have on hand as long as you have a well stocked pantry and plan ahead. Candy for the trick-or-treaters still has to be budgeted, but fun food for the family is already in the bag. Lets take a look at some of the great Halloween recipes/ideas that can be pulled together from things you may already have in your well stocked pantry. I’ve gathered these ideas from around the web. Click on the photos […]
