Crispy Rice Treats
Crispy rice treats are the perfect gooey, sweet treat for any time of year. They're simple to prepare, and very versatile, making them easily adapted for a variety of holidays and seasons. The total cost for this recipe is $1.59 or about $0.07 per treat.
- 1/4 cup butter (or margarine ($0.38)
- 4 cups miniature marshmallows ($0.59)
- 5 cups crispy rice cereal ($0.62)
Melt butter in a large sauce pan over low to medium heat.
Add marshmallows to pan with melted butter and stir constantly until melted.
Add crispy rice cereal to the pot with the melted marshmallows and fold them into the melted marshmallow mixture.
Continue stirring until the marshmallow mixture is coating all of the cereal.
Pour, or scoop, the marshmallow coated cereal into a greased 9X13 inch pan and spread it out to the edges.
Using a piece of wax paper between your hand and the coated crispy rice, press it down into the pan, ensuring that it's evenly distributed.
If you want to add sprinkles to the top, this is the point to do that, pressing gently to ensure they're adhered to the top.
Allow to rest for at least 20 minutes before cutting into squares.
